HOME License Types
Some functionality of HOME requires a specific license to become operable. On this page, the following licenses are explained:
HOME Passes
HOME V4.0 (OR HIGHER)
With the introduction of HOME Passes, Lawo stops selling HOME Core Licenses.
From HOME v4.0, HOME Passes are required to control any kind of inventory items (devices, apps or services) within HOME. These items are hosted within HOME's inventory, where operators get access to item-specific parameters for configuration and operational purposes. HOME's inventory is showing up, when you click the "Devices" command in menu on the left.

HOME Passes are available through Lawo's Flex licensing and in either option - perpetual or credit based. From HOME 4.0 onwards, new Lawo gear is shipped with a perpetual HOME Pass included. This enables to control and configure Lawo gear directly. Each item in HOME's inventory requires a HOME Pass to be controlled or configured. This applies to all systems, which are managed within HOME: Lawo gear, HOME apps and App servers, NMOS and 3rd party Lives@HOME devices, Lawo Services and software functionality (XCS), as well as HOME Proxies.
When a system is initially receiving HOME passes, these passes get auto-assigned to inventory items (except for NMOS Gear) which will be introduced to that system thereafter. This should help to keep the initial assignment simple. Inventory items, which have already been known to HOME, when the license file with HOME Passes is loaded, will require HOME Passes to be manually assigned.
After HOME Passes have been initially assigned automatically, the assignment will change into a manual-only process to avoid the system from reassigning passes accidentally. NMOS devices which are imported from an NMOS RDS always need to be manually assigned to HOME Passes. This way, it is possible to select exactly those devices you really want to manage and control through HOME. HOME Pass assignments will persist when a device is offline or disconnected. Assignments have to be manually removed.
To assign or remove one or more HOME Passes to devices,
- select the corresponding inventory items,
- click the "... More" button, and
- select "Remove HOME Pass" or "Add HOME Pass".
Perpetual HOME Passes are received in form of a license file, which will be uploaded to the system using the "Files" menu. After the upload, the total amount of available HOME Passes are shown on the Licenses → Perpetuals page. HOME Passes can also be activated against available credits. If your system has credits left, HOME Passes could use credits for activation.
While it is recommended to preserve a HOME Pass for each inventory item, it is also possible to swap HOME Passes across inventory items within the same HOME system.
An inventory item assigned with a HOME Pass can be
- configured through the HOME UI
- controlled through the HOME UI
- controlled through the HOME API
- exported via the HOME NMOS Exporter (applies to specific inventory items only)
An inventory item without a HOME Pass can
- not be configured through the HOME UI
- not be controlled through the HOME UI
- not be controlled through the HOME API
- not be exported via the HOME NMOS Exporter (applies to specific inventory items only)
Items without a HOME Pass will be visible in the inventory, showing "No HOME Pass" in the status column.
Identifying a sufficient amount of HOME Passes for your system
How many HOME Passes your new system requires to control your environment, is shown here.
Lets assume, you run some legacy Lawo gear and you want to add additional 3rd party gear and new Lawo gear to your environment, too.
- Amount of existing legacy Lawo Gear and services: A
- Amount of 3rd party Gear (NMOS, Lives@HOME, ...) added to the system: B
- Amount of new Lawo Gear, Apps, Services purchased for the system: C
- TOTAL of Gear = A + B + C
A total of 38 HOME Passes will be required:
Total: A (8 HOME Passes) + B (17 HOME Passes) + C (13 HOME Passes) = 38 HOME Passes
Two Scenarios may apply:
- Scenario 1 - HOME exists, new 3rd party and new Lawo gear is being added.
- Scenario 2 - HOME does not exist, new 3rd party and new Lawo gear is being added, and HOME is added to the system.
| Devices | 1: HOME system exists | 2: HOME system is installed with system upgrade | |
|---|---|---|---|
| A |
| 8 HOME Passes for upgrade covered by SLA | 8 HOME Passes need to be purchased |
| B |
| 17 HOME Passes need to be purchased | 17 HOME Passes need to be purchased |
| C |
| 13 HOME Passes come included with Lawo Gear | 13 HOME Passes come included with Lawo Gear |
NMOS Importer
The NMOS Importer (pink box in graphic below) is a functionality in HOME, which connects HOME to an NMOS Registration and Discovery Service (RDS). By connecting to an NMOS RDS, the importer can readout this RDS and imports NMOS devices and their RX/TX into HOME's inventory. In doing so, HOME gets access to NMOS devices within the same infrastructure and enables operators to connect streams to and from NMOS gear, using the HOME UI or via connected northbound controllers.

The connection to an NMOS RDS incorporates methods specified via the latest NMOS IS-04 and NMOS IS-05 specifications.
The NMOS Importer requires a license to become active. This license does not include the internal NMOS RDS.
NMOS Exporter
The NMOS Exporter (pink box in graphic below) is a functionality in HOME, which connects HOME to an NMOS Registration and Discovery Service (RDS) on the northbound side, to export HOME native gear into an NMOS controlled environment. In doing so, device managed in HOME not get exposed via NMOS IS-04 and controlled through NMOS IS-05. The NMOS Exporter translates between HOME and NMOS RDS.

The NMOS Exporter requires a license to become active. This license does not include any NMOS RDS functionality.
NMOS Proxy (HOME on Gateserver only)
The NMOS Proxy (pink box in graphic below) is a functionality in HOME, which connects a single NMOS device to HOME, without the need of passing through an NMOS Registration and Discovery Service (RDS). This way, a single NMOS device can be easily included into a setup and flows can be routed to and from that device using NMOS IS-05 commands. The connection requires the devices IP address to be available.

A single license is required per device. From HOME v4.0 on regular HOME systems (ex. HOME Gateserver) the proxy will be replaced by the NMOS Importer in combination with a HOME Pass per device.
