.edge - Video Proxies
This topic describes the video proxy generator(s).
Overview
The .edge proxy generator(s) are a licensed option. They can be used to generate smaller video proxies, from an SDI input, for streaming to the IP network. The proxies use less network bandwidth than the original signal and so are ideal for bandwidth-critical applications. For example, to feed downscaled versions of UHD video to multiviewers and other destinations (via IP).
To use this feature, the processing blade must have a 100G license and be set to the 100G+proxy operating mode. A proxy license is then required for each SDI input (SD/HD/3G).
Please note: For each 12G instance, 4 x proxy licenses are required.
Once a proxy license is assigned to an SDI input, the generator creates three downscaled versions known as the proxy flows. The flows are always present and are generated at 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64 of the original resolution. The user can then choose which signals to stream to the network: the 1:1 original and/or the proxy flows.
IP Senders
The resultant video streams are transmitted from the blade's media ports as follows.
- The 100GbE ports handle the original signal: at 1:1 resolution.
- The 25GbE ports handle the three proxy flows: at 1:4, 1:16 and 1:64 resolution.
The image below shows how this looks for an SD/HD SDI input (with 16 audio channels).
SDI to IP Conversion (for SD/HD-SDI)
The video senders are identical for 3G and UHD SDI. Remember that, a 12G instance uses a block of four SDI inputs and requires 4 x proxy licenses.
For more information about the 3G and UHD audio handling, see .edge - Audio Handling.
Licensing Requirements
To use this feature, the following licenses are required:
- 1 x .edge_100g license is required (per blade).
- Once the 100G license is enabled:
- For SD/HD/3G, you will need 1 x .edge_proxy license for each SDI input.
- For UHD (single-link 12G-SDI or quad-link 3G-SDI), you will need 4 x .edge_proxy licenses for each 12G instance.
- Up to 32 x .edge_proxy licenses are possible (per blade).
The 100G and proxy licenses can be activated from HOME in the usual manner. See .edge - License Activation.
Configuration via HOME
Once the correct licenses are deployed, the 1:4, 1:16 and 1:64 proxies appear in the "Stream Routing" page of HOME.
From here, you can connect the streams in the usual manner.

Troubleshooting
If you cannot see the proxy flows, then this is because there is no license assigned to the selected SDI input. Please see .edge - License Activation to activate the required license.
