Introduction

vsmSnap allows specially-configured LCD button panels to control matrix crosspoints within compatible* third-party routers/switchers.

All panels feature LCD buttons with a text display and RGB-backlight. The button's function, label and color is defined by the vsmSnap.exe configuration software. Buttons can change crosspoint routing within the target router/switcher. Multiple pages of functions are supported. Once configured, the panels operate in a stand-alone manner, with all communication handled via the TCP/IP network connection to the router/switcher.

The system requires:

  • at least one vsmSnap-enabled LCD button panel.
  • at least one compatible* router or switcher.
  • a vsmSnap configuration PC to upload data to each LCD button panel.
  • TCP/IP Ethernet communication between all panels, routers/switchers and the configuration PC.

* Compatible routers or switchers must support one of the protocols listed under System Requirements.

vsmSnap Panels

Four different LCD button panels are available offering a choice of size, mounting and button numbers. All four are based on the standard LBP panel series but are supplied with an internal memory device. The vsmSnap panels are marked as SNAP on the rear label.

A data sheet for each panel, including dimensions and power requirements, is available from your supplier.

vsmLBP 17 SNAP - 17 LCD buttons, RGB-backlight, 1RU

vsmLBP 34 SNAP - 34 LCD buttons, RGB-backlight, 2RU

vsmLBP 51 SNAP - 51 LCD buttons, RGB-backlight, 2RU

vsmLBP 32-DT SNAP - 32 LCD buttons, RGB-backlight, Desktop Mounting

vsmSnap Software

To configure the system, there are two software applications:

  • vsmDiscover.exe is the network detection tool. It is used to discover all vsmSnap-enabled panels (using their Ethernet MAC address), and map that MAC address to an IP address that is valid for your network.
  • vsmSnap.exe is the configuration tool. It is used to create and upload configuration data to each vsmSnap-enabled panel. The software supports multiple panels and multiple routers/switchers. This allows you to manage a large network from a single instance.

The latest versions of the configuration and panel software are available from Lawo's download center at www.lawo.com/download (after login).

vsmSnap Configurations

Panels are delivered in an "unconfigured" state, You must use vsmSnap.exe to upload configuration data from your PC to each panel in the network. From here on, the data is stored on the panel and loads at boot up.

At any time you can modify the functionality, by using vsmSnap.exe to edit the configuration and upload a new data set to selected panels in the network. Configurations can be saved and loaded on your PC, as *.snap files, making it easy to store and recall different setups.
