Scenario Overview

A national broadcaster operates a central production facility that provides all relevant signal resources, including those required by multiple regional studios.

These regional studios are connected via a WAN infrastructure (using IP addresses in the same range as the main facility) and are operated as lightweight satellite facilities. In addition to consuming centralized content, each regional studio is required to deliver regional program feeds back to the central facility.

Implementation Using Stream Share App

This scenario can be efficiently implemented using the Stream Share App (SSA) by adopting a structured and scalable approach:

  • In the central facility, a dedicated SSA instance is created for each regional studio
  • Each SSA instance is connected via NMOS to the NMOS Registry of the respective regional studio
  • As a result, each SSA immediately appears as an available NMOS Node within the corresponding regional system

Signal Distribution Workflow

Within the central facility:

  • Required outgoing signals are routed into the sender slots of each SSA instance
  • For improved usability, signal labels can be customized to clearly reflect their purpose for the regional operators

All routing changes and label adjustments made in the central system are:

  • Instantly visible in the regional studio
  • Automatically reflected without additional configuration steps

Return Signal Contribution

To support contribution from regional studios back to the central facility:

  • The SSA configuration includes receiver endpoints
  • Regional studios can route their outgoing signals into these receivers
  • These signals are then received and made available in the central HOME system

This enables a bidirectional signal exchange while keeping configuration ownership centralized.

Operational Simplification

Not all signal slots within an SSA instance are required in every scenario. To minimize operational complexity and reduce the risk of misconfiguration:

  • Unused stream slots can be hidden in the central configuration
  • This results in a cleaner and more intuitive interface for both central and regional users

Dynamic and Temporary Usage

The SSA-based exchange does not need to be permanent:

  • When signal sharing is no longer required, the SSA instance can simply be stopped
  • Additionally, SSA instances can be activated on demand using a credit-based licensing model, enabling:
    • Temporary exchanges
    • Event-based workflows
    • Highly flexible resource utilization
