This topic describes the options for the remote desktop connection.

Introduction

During operation, the Waves host PC is switched to the console's Central GUI using the PLUGIN button (on the console's SCREEN CONTROL panel). The remote desktop connection can be configured in one of two ways: using Windows Remote Desktop (integrated in Windows) or TightVnc (a VNC remote desktop software).

The images below show how the Waves SuperRack user interface looks, when it is switched to the console's Central GUI. Note the differences in the Central GUI side panel and status bar.

Windows vs VNC Remote Desktop

To choose the best option for your installation, please read the pros and cons below.

Windows Remote Desktop

  • Slower.
  • The Waves Super Rack and plugins view is not optimal.
  • The Central GUI side panel (for monitoring or access/assign) remains in view.
  • No access to the Waves host PC desktop.
  • You can use the following physical controls on the SCREEN CONTROL panel to interact with the plugins: rotary control, up/down arrows and Enter button.
  • The Waves host PC does not need to be connected to an external monitor.

VNC Remote Desktop

  • Faster.
  • Better Waves SuperRack and plugins view.
  • The Central GUI side panel is not present.
  • It is possible to access the Waves host PC desktop.
  • The physical controls on the SCREEN CONTROL panel (listed above) cannot be used with the plugins.
  • The Waves host PC must be connected to an external monitor OR you can use a FULLHD HDMI headless adapter.

The image below shows the FULLHD HDMI headless adapter (for VNC). Note that the adapter is not tested with 4K HDMI.

Please note: If you do not connect an external monitor or FULLHD HDMI headless adapter, then the Waves SuperRack user interface appears on the Central GUI at too small a resolution.

SCREEN CONTROL Panel (functionality)

For both Windows and VNC, you can adjust the plugin parameters using the console's touch-screen, or trackball and left/right mouse buttons.

If a Windows Remote Desktop Connection is used, then it is possible to use the up/down arrow keys, Enter button and rotary control to interact with the plugins. If a VNC remote desktop connection is used, then these controls are not supported.

Configuring the Remote Desktop Connection

The type of remote desktop connection is specified in the configuration file (stored on the console's control system). If you wish to change the type of remote desktop connection, then a new file must be installed by a Lawo support engineer. Please contact support@lawo.com for assistance.

Please note: To use the VNC option, you will need the TightVNC remote desktop software (described here).
