Control of the playback machine can be programmed onto user buttons via the Custom Functions display. The available functions include transport control and machine locators.

Transport Control
The Central User Button, Machine Control functions can be used to create transport control and port enable buttons. Two ports are supported: Sony 9pin (Machine A) and MIDI Machine Control (Machine C). One port can be active at a time. Once enabled, the console's automation system slaves to timecode from the active port.
To control a machine, select its port enable button – A or C – and use the Rewind, Play, Fast Forward and Stop buttons.
To punch in and out of record while a machine is in play:
- Press Record to punch in (while in play).
- Press Play to punch out (while in record).
Locating
The Central User Button, Machine Locator functions can be used to create "New Locator" and "Go to Locator" buttons:
- Create New Locator - stores the current timecode position into a new locator (identical to New on the Machine Locators display).
- Go to Locator 1 to 10 - recalls a stored locator from ID 1 to 10.
