On the PANNING panel (in the Central Control Section) you will find a motorised joystick.

This can be used to adjust the channel's X/Y/Z pan position (in Pan mode) or turn a surround source (in Hyper Pan mode).

Joystick Options

The joystick motors are enabled or disabled using the "Fader/Joystick → Joystick Motor" option (in the System Settings display). From here, you can also customize the feel of the joystick or add a notch at a particular position (e.g. Front Center).

By default, the joystick operates on the channel in access (unless you "freeze" the joystick to a particular channel).

Operating Principles

To use the joystick:

  1. On the PANNING panel, press PANNING (to page the controls to X/Y/Z pan mode).
  2. Press ON to switch the panning into circuit. What happens next depends on whether the joystick motors are enabled or disabled.
  3. If the joystick is motorised, then it moves automatically to the current pan position. In this instance, the pan position updates as soon as you move the joystick.
  4. If the joystick is not motorised, then it may be in a different position to the current pan position. In this instance, nothing happens to the pan position until you 'catch' the channel.
    • The current joystick and pan positions are indicated in the graphical overview (on the Central GUI). A cross shows the joystick position.
    • To 'catch the channel, move the joystick through the current pan position.
  5. By default, the joystick operates as follows:
    • Move the control left/right to adjust the Left-Center-Right pan position (X-axis).
    • Move the control up/down to adjust the Front-Back pan position (Y-axis).
  6. The following buttons can be used to modify the behaviour.
    • Turn on ISO PAN X to isolate the X-axis (so that any left/right movements are ignored).
    • Turn on ISO PAN Y to isolate the Y-axis (so that any up/down movements are ignored).
    • The Y-Z SWAP button swaps the Y and Z axis (so that any up/down movements adjust the height instead of Front-Back).

Freezing the Joystick

The FREEZE button can be used to lock the joystick to a channel (so that it works independently of the channel in access).

  1. First, make sure that the FREEZE button is turned off.
  2. Then, assign the channel you wish to freeze to the Central Control Section (e.g. by pressing a fader SEL button).
  3. Turn on FREEZE to freeze the assignment.
  4. The name of the channel assigned to the joystick is shown at the top of the selected module area (on the Main Display).
  5. The joystick now remains locked to this channel (until you turn off the FREEZE button).

Joystick Operation (in Hyper Pan)

In Hyper Pan mode, the joystick can be used to adjust the amount of Turn.
