This function can be used to program a "talk to channel" central user button. It can be used to talk to a specific bus output or the current channel in access (selected channel).

When active, the talkback source is routed onto one of 8 talkback buses. The talkback bus then feeds either the channel's N-1 return (for a selected input channel) or the direct out (for groups, auxes and sums).

When using the Selected Channel option, you can decide whether talkback is permitted for different channel types. For example, to allow talkback to input channels but not to groups or sums.

For each instance of this function, you can:

  • apply a talkback DIM value (to dim the console monitoring when the talkback user button is active).
  • assign a different talkback bus (from 1 to 8) to talk to different sets of channels independently.

Note that the talkback buses appear in the Destinations side of the Signal List display (under the DSP Inputs directory.)

  1. Define the Userbutton Index, Scribble and Color in the usual manner.
  2. In the Channel Type field, choose either a specific bus type (Aux-Bus, Group-Bus or Sum-Bus) or Selected Channel.
    1. If a bus type is selected, then use the Channel Index field to specify the bus number.
    2. If you are using Selected Channel, then the Channel Index field has no function and the talkback permissions (in step 5) are applied.
  3. Use the Talkback DIM (dB) field to enter the amount of dim applied to the console’s monitoring when the user button is active.
  4. Use the Talkback Bus field to select one of the 8 available talkback buses.
This option is useful when programming multiple TALK buttons, as you can have each user button working with a different talkback bus.
  5. The next three options apply if the Channel Type is set to Selected Channel. They define the talkback permissions for each channel type.
For example, if you set Allow AUX/N-1 = YesAllow GRP = No and Allow SUM = No, then the user button can talk to an aux or input channel (via its N-1) but not to a group or a sum.
