mc²36 - Signal List Directories
The Sources and Destinations in the Signal List can be filtered by selecting a directory path.
There are are always four main directory options: User Lists, DSP Outputs or DSP Inputs, I/O Signals and Miscellaneous. The User Lists can be customized, while the other directories are system-defined. This topic describes the system-defined directories.
Overview
The DSP Outputs/Inputs and Miscellaneous directories appear on all systems and provide access to the console's internal signals: bus outputs; channel inputs; insert sends and returns; channel direct outs; test tone; etc.
External signals such as mic/line, AES3, MADI, etc. can be found in the I/O Signals directory. The exact number and type will vary depending on the I/O devices connected to your system. The organization and labelling of the sub-directories happens automatically once each device and its streams are configured in HOME. An example is provided later.
Source Directories
Under Sources (on the left), there are three system-defined directories.
DSP Outputs
- AFL & PFL Outputs - the AFL/PFL 1 and 2 outputs.
- Aux Insert Sends - the aux master insert sends.
- Aux Outputs - the aux master outputs (including any downmixes).
- Input Channel Direct Outputs - the input channel direct outs.
- Input Channel Insert Sends - the input channel insert sends.
- Group Insert Sends - the group master insert sends.
- Group Outputs - the group master outputs (including any downmixes).
- Sum Insert Sends - the sum master insert sends.
- Sum Outputs - the sum master outputs (including any downmixes).
- CRM Processing Outputs -
- CRM Insert Sends -
Please note:
- Whether the AFL & PFL buses are enabled, and the format of AFL 1, is defined by the "Listen" options in the DSP Configuration display. If the AFL & PFL Outputs list is empty, check that the Enable Listen option is turned on!
- The position of the Insert Send/Return (for all channel types) and Input Channel Direct Output can be edited using the Channel Config display.
- If the Downmix option is enabled for a stereo or surround Aux, Group or Sum, then the downmixes appear in the Aux Outputs, Group Outputs or Sum Outputs.
I/O Signals
External inputs such as mic/line, AES3, MADI, etc. The naming of the sub-directories, and their contents, are dependent on the streaming configuration (defined in HOME). The Mic/Line directory is always included and contains the mic/line inputs from the console's Local I/O.
Miscellaneous
- Loopback Outputs - the virtual loopback outputs.
- Matrix/Monitoring Outputs - the console monitoring outputs for CRM1 and CRM2: LSP = loudspeaker outputs; HP = headphones.
- Signal Generator Outputs - the signal generator outputs including test tone and pink/white noise signals.
Destination Directories
Under Destinations (on the right), there are three system-defined directories.
DSP Inputs
- Inputs - the input channels.
- Input Channel Insert Returns - the input channel insert returns.
- Aux Insert Returns - the aux master insert returns.
- Group Insert Returns - the group master insert returns.
- Sum Insert Returns - the group master insert returns.
- Dynamic Keys - the dynamics key inputs (used by the dynamics processing).
- Talkbacks - the talkback bus sources (used by the "Talk to Channel" custom function).
- CRM Processing Inputs -
- CRM Insert Returns -
Please note:
- The position of the Insert Send/Return (for all channel types) can be edited using the Channel Config display.
I/O Signals
External outputs such as line out, AES3, MADI, etc. The naming of the sub-directories, and their contents, are dependent on the streaming configuration (defined in HOME).
Miscellaneous
- Loopback Inputs - the virtual loopback inputs.
- Matrix/Monitoring Inputs - the inputs to the console monitor matrix.
Virtual Loopbacks
The system includes virtual loopbacks that require no external physical connection. They can be used for a variety of applications, such as when a source is required to feed multiple destinations. Instead of routing the source directly to each destination, it can be connected to a loopback which then, in turn, feeds the destinations. This makes it easy to alter the source at a later date, as only one route to the loopback requires adjustment.
The Loopback Inputs and Loopback Outputs can be found in the Miscellaneous system directory.
