The new vsmWebPanel Server enables VSM panel control in any modern web-browser via a webservice. The webservice is installed and running as Windows Service and itself connects to a vsmStudio Cluster. Offering primarily button type functionality, similar to hardware control panels but also supporting additional features like flexible layout, text page items, Images and User management via vsmStudio. A vsmWebPanel panel Client can be opened in any modern browser and connect via LAN or WLAN, on a desktop PC, laptop, tablet or even smartphone.

A vsmWebPanel Client can be operated with a mouse or touchscreen and the panel doesn't need a wired connection to the controlled system.

This chapter covers the installation and setup of the vsmWebPanel Server and connecting Clients.

vsmPanel Server 1.0.0 requires vsmStudio Release 26.1.1 (B2494) or newer.

vsmWebPanel Functions

While the panel editing process in the vsmStudio software backend is the same for hardware panels, vsmPanel and vsmWebPanel, there are differences in the supported featureset, means, in what can be displayed and operated.

  • The vsmWebPanel Server and Clients in version 1 are limited to button-type functionality plus Images and Text page item. The new vsmWebPanel also supports User management via vsmStudio which is not available for the vsmPanel application. In vsmWebPanel version 1, any items configured within the panel layout, that allow other interaction than clicking (e.g. sliders or parameter input fields) may be displayed in some way but won't fully work as expected.
  • At this time, only the vsmPanel standalone application can display and provide access to all available button-specific and virtual control panel function, like Scheduler, Signal lists,  Views, etc.
