vsmWebPanel is a software tool allowing panel control in a modern web-browser via a webservice contained in a service back end that connects to vsmStudio hosts. Offering almost all functions available on hardware control panels (and some more), a panel can be opened in a browser via LAN or WLAN on a desktop PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
vsmWebPanel can be operated with a mouse or touchscreen and the panel doesn't need a cabled connection to the controlled system.
This chapter covers the installation and setup of vsmWebPanel.
vsmWebPanel Functions
In terms of configuration, panel editing of the vsmStudio software is the same for both vsmPanel and vsmWebPanel. The only differences between the two graphic user interface applications are functional in nature.
vsmPanel can display and provide all available button-specific and virtual control panel function. The virtual functions Media Player and Scheduler are, for example, only usable on a vsmPanel and not via the vsmWebPanel.
More precisely, besides panel buttons only the following page items can be used in web panels:
Items that allow other interaction than clicking (e.g. sliders or parameter input fields) will be displayed some way but won't work, but graphics on buttons get rendered as expected.
Almost all functions that can be displayed on a hardware control panel can be used on vsmWebPanel. An exception hereby is the timer countdown function. All button-specific functions can be controlled via a vsmWebPanel or a vsmPanel without the limitation of a hardware panel.
