When you are using vsmStudio and you want to assign a matrix, that is made available in the gadget tree via the Ember+ protocol, there is a pecularity, that you need to know.

Set up the connection

Connect to the Ember+ device like you are used to:

  • Click on
  • Click New
  • Open [+] Gadgets
  • Open [+] VSM
  • Select Gadgets (EmBER, Ember+)
  • Click Next
  • Create New Port
  • enter the connection data: Description + IP + port 9000 (default)
  • Click OK
  • Click OK

Create a new layer

  • Click on
  • Click New Layer
  • Enter the properties of the new layer
  • Click OK
  • Click OK

Subscribe the matrix

Open the Gadgets Window by clicking on . In the Gadget tree of the Gadget, that you want to control (by default named <ip address>:<port nr>), find the matrix, that you would like to assign to your layer.

Double click on that matrix entry in the gadget tree to subscribe the matrix (there won't be any visible feedback, that this was successful - don't worry).

Assign layer to matrix

Click on to open the Manage Communication Ports window again and find the communictation port of the device, that you want to control the matrix on in the middle column. Double click it to open the Port Settings window. On the left, click on Layer Assignment.

In the list on the right, you find the - respectively all - subscribed matrices. select one and click on the Modify button.

The Layer Assignment window opens and you can assign one of your virtual matrix layers to the subscribed matrix. Click OK to close the windows and you are done. Switching on the virtual matrix layers in vsmStudio will now also affect the routing of the controlled device.
