Retrieving vsmStudio related System Dump Files

The vsmStudio may produce two types of dump files:

  1. Self-Monitoring Dumps
  2. System Dumps

The dump files produced by self-monitoring are automatically stored in the <vsmStudio>\LogFiles\Dumps subdirectory.

The system dump files on the other hand must be retrieved from windows following the steps as described on the next page:

We understand that sending dump files to us might not always be simple and is of course not in line of the task at hand, yet us receiving these files is vital to have any issue resolved. Thank you for your cooperation!

In order to retrieve the right results, please make sure the server system properties are set correctly:

How to retrieve a system dump

  1. First, logoff (Must!) or restart windows.
  2. Logon on as administrator. If the system has captured dump files you will be greeted by a dialog looking similar to this:
  3. Click the blue “click here” link.

Whatever you do, never click either of the two buttons until you have copied the files as the dump files are removed from the system and cannot be recovered later.

  4. Click the blue “click here” link behind “To View technical information about the error report”. This will bring up the “Error Report Contents” Dialog
  5. Use explorer to navigate to the directory shown in the dialog.
  6. Copy and ZIP the entire directory including all files contained.
  7. Upload the ZIP file to http://www.vsmstudio.tv/upload.aspx.
A dialog guide you through a set of questions. Please provide as much additional information as possible to help our team resolving potential problems.
