Before you begin.
Please make sure that you have all necessary applications and tools available before you start the update.
We strongly recommend that the software versions used are from the same release packages.
- Please always use the Wizard function in SoP Explorer when updating surface modules.
It is important to follow the correct update sequence provided by the Wizard feature.
- Due to the implementation of Power Core Rev3, a backup of the crosspoints needs to be created. After the update the Power Core loses existing cross points and uses default connections, similar to what happens during a coldstart
- It is necessary to upload a converted config to the device, otherwise signals may be wrong or not available.
- Please note that source related Loudness gain parameters and settings available in On-Air designer and Web UI should not be used in production. They are experimental features only and will be licensable add-on.
- The maximum samples per frame for an outgoing stream is reduced to 64. If a higher value was previously configured, it will be reduced to 64 automatically.
- Due to the new logic engine of VisTool, projects needs to be recompiled and may report errors of non-connected logical states. These need to be set again.
Enhancements
Power Core
Console
New Configurable Fallback Times
- Fader Menu Fallback time
Refers the Fallback time in the Channel Display Menu (opened by pressing the encoder) - Fader Menu TAKE Fallback time
Refers the Fallback time for Menus with a Take function (Ravenna Source Pool / Selector Source Pool)
Freeze Surface reduces the backlight of the TFTs
TFTs of the surface are now completely dimmed, when Freeze Surface is active.
DSP
New DSP Attack and Release times
With this release much more granular Attack and Release times are available for the Dynamics section.
This feature is only available for diamond configurations.
After installing this version, downward compatibility with Source Replications for a crystal or a ruby console is no longer available.
New Parameter for AutoMix: Floor and Passive
Passive: This setting prevents the channel from affecting other signals in the same AutoMix group. The channel itself will still be controlled by the AutoMix.
Floor: This defines the minimum level that the signal volume can be set to by the AutoMix.
Enabling the Passive setting and configuring a minimum Floor level on a channel is like configuring an automatic ducker.
Compressor: Possibility to adjust a positive Gain
It is now possible to adjust the Gain between -12 dB and + 12 dB.
New Feature: Center Slope of 5.1 Summing for stereo sources.
For stereo sources the slope is now available to adjust the Level between fL/fR and C.
Increased the maximal amount of VCAs from 8 to 16.
The XL and MAX licenses now offer 16 configurable VCA Groups.
This feature is only available for diamond configurations.
Ember+
New Ember+ parameter: MADI Ports
A new MADI ports parameter has been added to the Ember+ Tree. It gives status information of the 20 MADI ports that can be connected. 1 - 4 are the front ports and 5 - 20 the potential MADI ports via MADI slot-in cards.
Fader Level of Sum/VCA/Minimix/R3LAY Sources can even be changed, if not assigned
The fader level is now writable, even when nothing is assigned to a fader.
Voice/Music/Off per source now available in the Ember+ Tree
The Voice/Music/Off setting is now also available via Ember+.
I/O
New I/O Card: GPIO card 710/80
The GPIO Card is now recognized and supports 8 GPIs and 8 GPOs and VCA inputs.
Power Core and AIOX can host two cards per device. These cards must be configured in Slot 7 and/or 8.
AIOX: Support for Redundant Cabling
A single AIOX can now be connected in a redundant fashion to a single Power Core. As a result, settings like TX Copy etc., as known already from MADI connections are available.
The webpage does not reflect the active state and will always show the first MADI connection as active. The LEDs on the AIOX will display the active connection.
AIOX: New Logical Inputs for Redundancy
For the creation of individual redundancy strategies, new logical inputs are available:
Set Active: The Power Core takes control of the associated AIOX
Set Passive: The Power Core releases control of the associated AIOX
Set Auto On: Activates automatic switch over
Set Auto Off: Deactivates automatic switch over
These parameters are edge-controlled. This means that the last trigger wins.
In Auto mode the AIOX performs an automatic Fail Over, when the connection to the active Power Core fails.
AIOX: Alarms Configurable
Alarms can be configured for the AIOX, as already known from the Power Core.
License
RAVENNA Plus
New RAVENNA Plus license implemented. For details please visit: Power Core - License Chart
Only available for Power Core Rev3.
Network
Unicast Streaming
It is now possible to send and receive streams via Unicast. Configuration is done by entering the receiving IP address in the IP address field.
It is not recommended to announce Unicast streams via MDNS or SAP as they can only be received on the IP the stream is sent to.
Fixed Reception Buffer
With the setting "Fixed Time Offset" it is now possible to set a fixed buffer time.
IGMP SSM Enable deactivates IGMP v1/2 on the ports RA0-3
When SSM Enable is ticked, it automatically deactivates IGMP v1 and 2 on the RAVENNA ports. Formerly, the setting "IGMP v1/2 Disable" had to be ticked. This checkbox deactivates it now for the Control Port.
New Parameter for RAVENNA Static Stream: "Receive on Device"
This setting determines on which NIC a stream is received, when configured via the RAVENNA Static Stream Element.
Settings:
ra0 + ra1
ra2 + ra3
ra0 - ra3
Only applicable for Power Core Rev3 configurations
LLDP System name advertises hostname
The LLDP System name now advertises the configured hostnames, when the setting Host/Public Names as LLDP SysNames is activated.
BMCA between Interfaces: Support of shortest Path
The NICs also differentiate between the shortest path if the Grand Master is the same.
UDP Legacy Blocking for RA0 - RA3
A port range for UDP Traffic can be configured, which will not be forwarded to the CPU. Default is 10000 - 65535.
It is recommended to use a UDP port within the blocked area for Unicast Streaming.
Do not block used ports like MDNS (5353) or SAP (9875), to allow the System to act as needed.
New Parameter: Suppress Reception of MDNS on Interface RA2 and RA3
With the Setting "Suppress Rcve on Dev 2,3" the reception of MDNS messages is disabled on RA2 and RA3.
Only applicable for Power Core Rev3 configurations
New Parameter: Use Global Pool across Device Groups
When this setting is enabled, and RA0/RA2 + RA1/RA3 are in the same subnet, then all configured Receivers are in one Pool and the Power Core decides on which Interface the Stream is received.
Syntonized Mode: Possibility to retune Streams
It is now possible to retune streams, that are received in syntonized mode.
Enable or Disable Auto Negotiation
Via the webpage the Auto Negotiation can be Enabled or Disabled. Default behavior is Disabled. In relation to this the Webpage shows so-called Link Flags, that provide the following information:
No Link Flag: Auto Negotiation is deactivated
SGMII: Auto Negotiation is always activated with the used SFP
SFP_AUTO: Auto Negotiation is always active with the used SFP
MAC_AUTO: Auto Negotiation is manually activated
For SGMII SFPs this setting has no effect.
New LAGG Modus failover for dwc0 und dwc01
failover
Sends and receives traffic only through the master port. If the master port becomes unavailable, the next active port is used. The first interface added is the master port; any interfaces added after that are used as failover devices.
lacp
Supports the IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) and the Marker Protocol. LACP will negotiate a set of aggregable links with the peer in to one or more Link Aggregated Groups. Each LAG is composed of ports of the same speed, set to full-duplex operation. The traffic will be balanced across the ports in the LAG with the greatest total speed, in most cases there will only be one LAG which contains all ports. In the event of changes in physical connectivity, Link Aggregation will quickly converge to a new configuration.
System
New Flag: "T" / Tuning
A new "Tuning" ( T ) Flag is introduced to indicate the state of streams. The T is active when a stream is connected and tuned. It is represented on the webpage and via Ember+ per receiver.
New Flag: "N" / Not Usable
A new "Not Usable" ( N ) Flag is introduced to indicate Unicast Streams, which are announced via SAP or MDNS, but can´t be received by this device, because of a different target IP. It is represented on the webpage and via Ember+ per receiver.
New Logical Input: "Do not load DeskSnap SrcParams"
When active, Snapshot DSP parameter are not loaded on this source via a global Snapshot. The source preservs its parameter settings.
The source is not protected, from a different Fader Assign
Source Snapshot is loaded, and parameters are pasted from the clipboard, if available.
Inheritance of VCA Group Mute to the Source
The mute status of a VCA group can be inherited to a source. For this the new "Source.Input Mute External" parameter can be used to create logics.

Known Issues
Power Core
Power Core PTP Slave Engine potentially does not start
When the Power Core was configured to be Slave Only and this configuration is changed, that the Power Core could win the BMCA, it might be that the PTP Slave Engine does not start correctly, so the power core can not receive Streams. In this case a cold start or a Stop and Start of the PTP Engine gets rid of the Problem. This only occurs, after changing the config.
VisTool
Changing a Property of a logical Element does not trigger the "Project Changed"
Changing a property of a logical Element and storing directly after will lead to the message "Nothing Changed". When one Element is moved up and down the project can be stored.
Predefined User Text "Channel State" does not display information's for sums
The "#dmstext:channel:channel-state" is not working for sums.
Known Limitations
- Due to the new DSP parameters, Source Replication between this version and ruby or crystal configurations, can't perform Ember+ Source Replication.
Compatibility
Sapphire Mastercard MK2 and Sapphire Compact Mode require OAD 6.4
For networked systems using a common and centralized VisTool user and snapshot database, please make sure that all Power Core units are running the same firmware version.
- A VisTool version higher than 7.0.0.xx is required for release version 8.0
- VisTool MK1 is compatible with release 4.0 in all products except sapphire master card MKII.
- VisTool MK1 is not compatible with release 4.2 or higher in all products.
- sapphire master card MKII (947/62 and 947/65) will only run with VisTool MK2.
- VisTool MK2 is compatible with all current Lawo Radio OnAir products running release 4.0 and 4.2. This includes Zirkon, which runs releases 4.0 and 4.2, but does not support releases higher than 4.2.
Using a VisTool MK1 configuration with VisTool MK2
VisTool MK2 can open and convert VisTool MK1 configurations. Please note that it will be necessary to make manual corrections to the converted versions. Because VisTool MK2 is a complete rewrite of the application, some parameters cannot be copied 1:1, and must be changed manually.
Please reserve some time to make these alterations and check the resulting configuration properly.
