The Waves SoundGrid Plugin Server is a chargeable option requiring additional hardware. It allows Waves plugins to be controlled directly from the Central GUI and reset by the console's productions and snapshots.

Waves FX integration

Key Facts

  • All audio processing takes place on a dedicated DSP server from Waves that supports high plugin counts, low latency and up to 256 channels.
  • The server is controlled remotely, from a host PC, running the Waves SuperRack SoundGrid software.
  • Operators can define up to 64 "Racks" (mono, stereo or surround), which connect to the mc2 console via MADI.
  • Each Rack can be fitted with up to eight plug-ins, selected from the Waves plug-in bundle purchased with your system.
  • An I/O interface (the EXBOX.SG from DirectOut) converts proprietary SoundGrid layer 2 network to optical MADI (for the connection to the mc2 MADI port).

For more information about what is included, see Waves for mc² - Unpacking.

Waves Integration

  • All settings, including the Rack configuration, plugin assignments and parameters, are stored in a SuperRack session on the host PC.
  • Input and output connections are made from the console's Signal List display, enabling Racks to be used for different types of function: channel inserts, aux sends and FX returns, etc.
  • The SuperRack user interface is switched to the console's Central GUI via a remote desktop connection.
  • Operators can then use the console touch-screen, or trackball and left/right-mouse buttons, to add Racks, assign plug-ins and adjust parameters.
  • Some of the Waves SuperRack functions can be operated from the console's Central User Buttons.
  • The session and snapshots (in Waves) are linked to the production, snapshot folder and snapshots (in the mc2 console).
